Jerry Uelsmann [Contemporary Photographer]

Jerry Uelsmann's photographs are unique and adventurous. He uses multiple images and enlargers to make the final print. He sees his pictures as and image of the unreal. While these types of pictures can be pretty easily manipulated in photoshop, Uelsmann creates them in the darkroom.

Photographers and Imagery for Inspiration

Below I've listed some of the imagery I've been using as inspiration for this project. I've listed a couple artists with specific works and also a collective group of shots by multiple photographers of close ups of the human form.

Zena Holloway

Artist Website: http://www.zenaholloway.com

Knowing that I was going to be taking some underwater shots, I wanted to see what other photographers had done. Holloway was one I was particularly drawn. She cleverly dresses and presents her subjects in a way that is both dynamic and narrative. The high contrast lighting also helps bring interest to each shot.

Henrik Knudsen

Artist Website: http://www.henrikknudsen.com/

I was also looking for artists that use narrative as the driving force behind their photography. This lead me to Knudsen. I knew that I was looking to do much more close up and focused photography, and while Knudsen takes very wide and distant shots, his imagery is very good at telling a story. In each shot, my mind tries piecing together a story for why, what, when, and where it is taken.
