Nicole Torrey - Reflection Paper

Overall my experience with this collaborative project was an enjoyable one.  After going through a group project last year and having a bad experience with that it; I was kind of skeptical on how well this would work.  But all the students were interested in the concept and wanted to make this the best project in the short amount of time that we had, so we worked very well as a group together. I also liked that we didn't just take one groups idea, but combined aspects from everyones concept to make the final product. The way we all came together to work out the concept, bouncing ideas back and forth, was very refreshing.
The most interesting part of this project for me was when we interviewed people.  When we were first given the assignment I was nervous about walking up to people and asking them random questions.  But working in groups and us all having a individual job really made it easy.  Also when interviewing I was surprised at how willing and open people were to talk to us. If someone walked up to me and said, "do you want to be part of our art project?" I would honestly probably say no.
When we were all finished installing the project it was rewarding seeing it actually displayed and also being able to see the similarities to Simon's work.  Even though our work was based off of Simon's work displayed in the Dowd gallery, I believe that we still made it our own but including our community of Cortland. I feel like the artist talk with Simon was a great conclusion to this project because we finally go to ask him the questions that we have been wondering about through this whole experience.  To be honest, that was one of the best artist talks I've been to in the gallery since coming to Cortland.  It was very insightful and inspiring.  Great job Interactive Media class!
